UBIT UNIX/Linux Accounts

Introduction

All UB students, faculty, and staff automatically receive general-use UNIX accounts known as UBIT (UB Information Technology) accounts. This account is distinct from your CSE account(s). You may send and receive e-mail, post a home page, and perform general compute operations from this account.

Change your UBIT password

Note: Because your UBIT account and CSE accounts are on separate systems, this password change tool does not change your CSE password.

  1. Change your UBIT password by filling out this form:

    https://ubidm.buffalo.edu/idm/user/login.jsp

  2. After you submit the form, it will take up to one hour for your new password to propagate to all the UBIT resources that utilize it (UB Wireless, Dial-Up Network Connectivity, UBVPN, etc.).

Check your UBIT E-Mail

Check your UBIT e-mail by logging into your UBIT account and running pine, which is preconfigured on your account:

% ssh ubunix.buffalo.edu

Enter your UBIT username and password:

% pine

You can also use an email client such as Mozilla Thunderbird or Microsoft Outlook to check your mail by adding:

imap.buffalo.edu

... as one of your IMAP servers for incoming mail.
