UBIT UNIX/Linux Accounts

Introduction

All UB students, faculty, and staff automatically receive general-use UNIX accounts known as UBIT (UB Information Technology) accounts. This account is distinct from your CSE account(s). You may send and receive e-mail, post a home page, and perform general compute operations from this account.

Change your UBIT password

Note: Because your UBIT account and CSE accounts are on separate systems, this password change tool does not change your CSE password.

  1. Change your UBIT password by following the instructions here:

    https://www.buffalo.edu/ubit/service-guides/accounts/your-ubitname-accou...

Check your UBIT E-Mail

Check your UBIT e-mail by logging into your UBIT account and running pine, which is preconfigured on your account:

% ssh ubunix.buffalo.edu

Enter your UBIT username and password:

% pine

You can also use an email client such as Mozilla Thunderbird or Microsoft Outlook to check your mail by following the instructions here:
