Although MacOS print services are Common Unix Print Service (CUPS)-based, we use the GUI "Printer & Scanners" Window from "System Preferences" to add a CSE printer. The following procedure should work on all versions of MacOSX on both researcher and CSE-managed networks.
- Login to your Mac OS X system.
- From the Toolbar, select Go -> Applications -> System Preferences -> Printers & Scanners
- Click the '+' icon.
- In the Add Printer Select:
- Select the IP option from the top navigation pane
- Address: [your ubitname]@charlie.cse.buffalo.edu
- Protocol: Line Printer Daemon - LPD
- Queue: The name of the desired printer, ex: groucho
- Name: The name of the desired printer, ex: groucho
- Location: can be any description you like such as "Copy Room" or "Office"
- Print Using: Select the Generic Postscript driver
- Select the option for a duplexing unit (unless you know for sure your office machine does not duplex)
.
- CSE printer access requires you to authenticate with your UBITName credential. Please keep your login name on your personal compute device consistent with your UBITName or you might not be able to access certain CSE printers. The observed behavior is usually that the job will silently fail to print.
