Adobe Flash Player

Introduction

Adobe Flash (previously called Macromedia Flash) is a multimedia platform created by Macromedia and currently developed and distributed by Adobe Systems. Since its introduction in 1996, Flash has become a popular method for adding animation and interactivity to web pages; Flash is commonly used to create animation, advertisements, and various web page components, to integrate video into web pages, and more recently, to develop rich Internet applications.

Install Adobe Flash Player on 64-Bit Red Hat Linux Systems for use by Mozilla Products

Adobe recommends using caution before following this procedure on production systems, because this software is still in preview releases.

  1. Locate and remove any existing instances of libflashplayer.so or wrapped versions of libflashplayer.so to avoid conflicts:
    
    % locate libflashplayer.so
    
    
  2. Download the latest 64-bit Linux Adobe Flashplayer plugin tarfile.
  3. Gunzip, untar the plugin file, called libflashplayer.so.
  4. Move the file to /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so.
  5. Restart your browser.
  6. Test by viewing a Flash video.
