Adobe Acrobat is a family of computer programs developed by Adobe Systems, designed to view, create, manipulate and manage files in Adobe's Portable Document Format (PDF). Some software in the family are commercial, and some are freeware. Adobe Reader (formerly Acrobat Reader) is available as a no-charge download from Adobe's web site, and allows the viewing and printing of PDF files. Acrobat and Reader are widely used as a way to present information with a fixed layout similar to a paper publication.
- When upgrading Adobe Acrobat Reader, temporarily delete the /util/Adobe symlink. The install process creates a directory called /util/Adobe. Rename the directory to /util/Adobe-x.y.z, then recreate the symlink to point to the new directory.
- Syntax to add the Adobe Reader plugin to Mozilla Firefox such that it displays embedded PDF documents:
% sudo /usr/lib64/nspluginwrapper/npconfig -d /util/firefox-3.5.2/lib/firefox-3.5.2/plugins/ -i /util/Adobe/Reader/Browser/intellinux/nppdf.so
